The What, The Why, and The How of Competency-Based Education

A Series of 3 Workshops | Come to One or All
November 22, 2019 | Cannon School
January 31, 2020 | Cary Academy
April 1, 2020 | Saint Mary's School

Do we need to reimagine grading and assessment or ask the deeper question: Do we need to reimagine learning? If the purpose of grading is to communicate learning, then we must redefine the performance criteria demanded of our students in their journey to college and career readiness. Moving from traditional learning and assessment systems is a challenge for any school. It calls on us to look closely at who holds the vision for learning and how we can best prepare our learners with academic preparedness as well as their personal success skills. Competency-based learning, assessment, and grading moves traditional school structures to meet students where they are in their learning while holding them to high levels of academic preparedness and growth in their personal success skills in their learning journey.

Come spend time with NCAIS colleagues, exploring the latest research, talking to practitioners, and learning new models for grading and assessments.

Target Audience: Educators and Administrators

Cost: NCAIS Schools: $350 per person for all 3 or $135 per person for one event.
