9:45 am Building a Well-Oiled Team, Linda Nelson and Stephanie Keaney, NCAIS | Administration Building Room A203
Consider the Command Central role business offices play in the life of the school. You are the hub that provides life and resources to each of the multitude of spokes (stakeholders) you serve. Under normal circumstances, your team is stretched thin...under COVID circumstances, your team has maxed out its surge capacity to the point of depletion.  We’re exhausted and in desperate need of rejuvenation. Join NCAIS leaders as we explore the power of teamwork through DISC. Participants will be asked to complete a short DISC assessment prior to the session.  BRING YOUR TEAM for this roll-up-your-sleeves, deep dive into team dynamics.

11:45 am Lunch Roundtables | Library

1:00 pm  Recruitment and Retention for a New Generation | Damian Kavanagh, MISBO | Administration Building Room A203
In the last 6 to 12 months, we have gotten more requests than ever to help schools with salary studies - beyond executive compensation or administrator compensation - these requests have been for faculty and staff. Probably driven by concerns about pay equity, competition for teachers and faculty, and higher than anticipated inflation, many schools appear to be working on examining their pay practices to become fair and to offer competitive compensation. Join us for this session where we will walk you through the three-part methodology used to help schools:
  • internal righting-the-ship and uncovering and documenting pay practices that your salary data indicates
  • appropriate external benchmark group creation
  • salary adjustment to desired position within a benchmark group
Damian will explain the math for both the mathy people and for the not-so-mathy people. And, you will have fun!

Given that educational institutions are a higher risk class of business with regards to cyber insurance, underwriters are becoming more stringent in the requirements that a school must take to protect their network. In this session we will discuss current market trends, minimum IT procedures that should be in place to protect your school and secure coverage, and what to expect going forward. Join us for this informational session as Murphy Holderness discusses current cyber market trends and how they are impacting underwriting guidelines for cyber insurance.

The presentation will end with a panel discussion with Murphy Holderness of Marsh McLennan Agency, and leaders at K-12 independent schools about the value of an ERM program, who participates in school-wide risk management, what risks are top of mind at independent schools in 2022 and some risk management resources for K-12 schools.

9:00 am The Business Office Role in Succession Planning | John Littleford | Administration Building Room A203
Business officers have the capacity to be instrumental in succession planning if given the opportunity. They are in a unique position to work with the board from both a knowledgeable and neutral perspective.  Business officers, better than anyone other than the current head, know and understand the internal dynamics, needs, and intricacies of their school. We invite you to join John Littleford as we explore why business officers should be front line consultants in succession planning and how they can position themselves strategically to assume that leadership role.

11:15 am Seizing Opportunity: Learning from the Pandemic Pandemonium, Damian Kavanagh, President and CEO, MISBO | A203                         You’ve probably heard that you should never let a good crisis go to waste. Well – I don’t know if there is such a thing as a good crisis, but there may be a good opportunity from a crisis. This session’s central query is whether you are a boss with an agenda or a leader with a vision and how do we take what we had to do to survive and translate it into what we want to do to thrive. We will look at school through the lens of governance, finance, facilities, and HR and consider the skills of tenacity, empathy, innovation, and leadership. And you will meet my friend Gabriel and hear about his favorite color.
