Kristin Boone has loved being a middle school Spanish teacher at Forsyth Country Day School for eighteen years. She is passionate about Spanish, her students, and teaching language acquisition using comprehensible input. About six years ago she began to incorporate novels and comprehensible input into her classroom and has seen first-hand the significant impact CI has had on her students.  She is a firm believer in motivating students by incorporating autonomy, competence, and relatedness into her classes. Creating One Word Images has been a slam dunk for motivating her students to acquire language and she loves to share what she is learning with other teachers.  When she is not at school, Kristin enjoys her small photography business, quilting, and spending time with her husband, grown children, and grandchildren.

Matt Cummings After ten years as a Spanish instructor, I have come to believe that the most important characteristic of an effective educator is the ability and desire to build genuine relationships with students. My students must feel valued and understand why what I want to teach them is important. I completed my undergraduate degree from Gardner-Webb University in 2013 and will complete my M.A. in Foreign Language Education at UNC Charlotte in May 2023. I live in Matthews, NC with my wife and three year-old son.

  Jacqueline Lopez earned her bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Alabama and her master's degree in Educational Administration/Curriculum Development from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  Jacqueline has taught AP Spanish and Spanish I & II in Forsyth Country Day School's Upper School and also taught Middle School Spanish for two years. She enjoys sharing her experiences and passions with her students. Lisa is a member of ACL (American Classical League) and NCCA (North Carolina Classical Association). She is initiating a chapter of the NCJCL(North Carolina Junior Classical League) at FCDS. All programs encourage and support interest in the language, history, and culture of ancient Greece and Rome and their impact on today's world. When Lisa is not teaching and reading Latin, she loves to take long walks while listening to podcasts, baking birthday cakes for her family and extended family, and spending time with her husband, spirited children, and boisterous dog, Rex.

Mrs. Paula Welch
Spanish Teacher
Foreign Language Department Head
Liberty University, B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies in Education;
NTI,  B.A. in Intercultural Studies; ACSI Certified Teachers

I spent two decades involved in a cross-cultural ministry in the Republic of Panama, where I learned two distinct languages and saw how intertwined culture is in the language-learning process. When we returned to live in the U.S., I began teaching Spanish. I love introducing my students to different cultures around the Spanish-speaking world. As the second most spoken language, it is used in many different cultural contexts. My goal is to train global citizens who truly care about communicating in a culturally relevant way.
