Taking Our Own Counsel: Preserving Mission and Sanity in a Shifting Landscape
The world of admission and college counseling may have been turned upside down in the last year and a half but at its core, the focus on doing right by our students remains. Even when we were meeting them through a screen, the center of this work was always our students. As we scrambled to find solid ground in order to support them, their caregivers, and our entire school communities, what might we have lost in the process, and what parts do we actually want back? This session will be one part self-care, and a few parts “crowdsourced takedown” of the systems in place that keep us from aligning our college counseling programs with our own school missions.

12:10 - Lunch (UberEats lunch provided by ) and session with Dr. Kerr C. Ramsay III | Senior Vice President for Undergraduate Admissions, High Point University
Life Skills 101 - Among the many responsibilities of a successful college counselor is helping students develop the skills that they need for success in their lives.  This session will develop a framework by which school counselors can understand the value of life skills and practical methods they can use to build them in their students. These life skills are shown to have positive correlation to success in college and beyond.
