Will auditions be required?

Auditions will not be required for either event, but we will keep instrumentation and voicing in mind to create a balanced and successful ensemble. 

Do School Music Directors have to attend?

School Music Directors are strongly encouraged to attend these events, and there must be at least one guardian representing each participating school at the clinic at all times. There will be PD credit available. 

When do we sign up?

Final registration and fees will be due in September, but to help us prepare, please register by June 1 with your anticipated participation numbers so music can be selected. NCAIS member schools given priority registration

Chorus

  • Open to singers grades 9th-12th
  • Conducted by Dr. Michael Martin
  • Masterclasses with 
  • Honors Choral final performance: repertoire will be level 5-6 and include diverse styles of sacred, secular, and world music as well as a Musical Theatre
  • High school singers are welcome from both Choral Ensembles and Musical Theatre classes. 
  • Workshops offerings will include but are not limited to how to best prepare for an audition, acapella group tips, sound production, and movement for musical theatre

Band

  • Open to Middle and High School students
  • Middle school band, conducted by TBA
  • TBA will conduct the High School band.
  • Repertoire will be levels 1-2 for our middle school band and 4-5 for our high school band.
  • In addition to full band instruction, students will receive section instruction from the faculty of the UNC-C Music Department for their specific instrument
  • We are also looking to offer a percussion ensemble experience for percussionists in addition to performing with the full bands. 

Who are the leaders of the Performing Arts Fest events?

  • Cameron Bolin and Les Turner, longtime NCAIS music faculty members, are the festival coordinators for their respective genres
