Speaker Bios

Mindy Elliott, Hospital Education Manager

Mindy comes to Veritas Collaborative with a passion for working with students. She has developed our academic programming since we opened in 2012. Mindy manages the education departments in our facilities and is dedicated to providing individualized education services to meet the unique needs of each patient during treatment.

Mindy taught middle school, high school, and community college English in California and North Carolina. In 2012, she earned a specialized certification in teaching academically and intellectually gifted students through Duke University, and in 2014, Mindy became a National Board Certified Teacher in Exceptional Needs/Gifted and Talented. 

At Veritas Collaborative, Mindy and the Education Department work with an adolescent patient’s home school to enable a continuation of academic progress. The main goal is to set the framework for a smooth transition back to the student’s home school. The education team is excited to get to know each of our patients and create a nurturing environment for them to continue learning through treatment. They also work with adult patients assisting with college deferments, college and career planning and enrichment activities while the patient is in treatment.

Katlyn Grasso

Katlyn Grasso is the founder and CEO of GenHERation. In her role as CEO, she has created GenHERation Discovery Days, hosted the GenHERation Summer Leadership Series, developed original GenHERation webisodes, and has grown the GenHERation community to reach more than 75,000 girls. During the summer of 2016, GenHERation's Discovery Days tour consisted of 9 trips across 5 cities with 150 female executives that provided young women with the opportunity to visit the most innovative companies in America. Discovery Days was recognized as the largest career exploration trip for young women in the United States with an audience reach of more than 10 million people.

Katlyn is a 2015 graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania where she received a B.S. in Economics with concentrations in finance and strategic globalization. She is one of the inaugural recipients of the President’s Engagement Prize created by Dr. Amy Gutmann at the University of Pennsylvania. This award provides graduating seniors with $150,000 to develop innovative projects that have the potential to change the world. Katlyn is a Seventeen Power Girl and was also named to the magazine’s list of “Real Girls Doing Amazing Things.” Katlyn was selected to participate in the Millennial Trains Project, a cross country trip for 25 social innovators from around the world sponsored by NBCUniversal. During the journey, she was named one of the “5 Innovators to Look Out for on the Millennial Trains Project” by Innovator’s Peak. After the trip, she was awarded an Impact Grant from NBCUniversal to produce webisodes of the GenHERation Summer Leadership Series as one of the most innovative, socially-impactful projects that came out of this year’s journey. She was featured on the cover of Philly Biz Magazine as the youngest woman on the “Women to Watch List.” Katlyn has started two nonprofit organizations and the dance exercise program Tap for Tots. In her role as Managing Practice Leader of the Wharton Small Business Development Center, she helped her team generate $30 million in new revenue and investments for their clients. Katlyn is a frequent radio and television contributor and her work has been featured across national media outlets, including CNBC, NBC New York, NBC Washington, D.C., NBC Philadelphia, Forbes, The Huffington Post, Yahoo Travel, Wharton Magazine, CBS Radio, SiriusXM Radio, and Seventeen Magazine. 

J. Nealie Tebb 

Nealie is a Registered Dietitian at Veritas Collaborative, a specialty hospital system for the treatment of eating disorders headquartered in Durham, NC. She received her Master’s degree in Foods & Nutrition from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC and her Bachelor’s Degree in Middle School Education with a minor in Emotional and Behavioral Disorders from Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri.

She specializes in providing medical nutrition therapy for children and adolescents in inpatient behavioral health facilities. Nealie is dedicated to helping others improve their relationship with food and physical activity and incorporate mindful eating practices into their daily lives. She is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals

Laura Tierney
President and Founder of The Social Institute,  Laura Tierney is driven to help students win at social media. Combining her standout sports leadership experience with her career managing social media for world-class brands, she bridges the gap between adults and teens as one of the nation’s leading experts in social media education. The Social Institute works with students, parents and schools around the country, offering presentations, interactive workshops, social media curriculum, and a digital destination for partners — The Social Locker Room. Their trailblazing partners include Ravenscroft School, Cary Academy, Christ School, Oldfields School, Duke Men’s Basketball, U.S. Olympic athletes, and other leading schools. 

Before founding The Social Institute, Laura served as Social Media Director at the award-winning advertising agency McKinney, leading social media strategy for national and international brands. Earlier in her career, Laura helped ESPN use social media to launch espnW and inspire millions of women and girls who love sports. She has developed social strategies and campaigns for leading brands including Duke Men’s Basketball, Nike, Under Armour, Disney, Toyota, Travelocity and Oakley.

Laura is an unshakable optimist and a competitive athlete at heart. She was a student-athlete at Duke University, majoring in sociology and journalism, and became a 4-time Duke All-American, 2-time team captain, and Duke Athlete of the Decade for field hockey. During her time at Duke, she played with the U.S. Women’s Junior National Field Hockey Team, representing the United States at home and abroad.

Today, Laura is playing on behalf of students to equip them with skills, plays, and values that embody their daily digital needs. Through her work with The Social Institute, students now have the chance to win at the world’s largest game: social media.
