The Future of Social Media Education: A New Systemic and Positive Approach for Students (Black Box Theater)

Laura Tierney, Founder and CEO, The Social Institute

At a time when the average students spends 8 hours each day on digital devices and, simultaneously, cyber-bullying and reputation-damaging posts are running rampant, few schools have found a feasible solution. Social networks are only becoming more complicated yet parents and educators cannot keep up. Ravenscroft School and NC-based organization The Social Institute have filled that growing void by providing the first-ever social media curriculum designed to guide students to positive, productive use of social media and technology. Learn about an approach that empowers students to win at social media and do so with a positive approach.

Early detection and treatment for eating disorders can have a significant impact on prognosis and recovery. School personnel are a valuable resource for individuals struggling with eating and body image issues, and often are a first point of contact for students seeking help with these disorders.  This presentation aims to 1) increase awareness of the signs and symptoms of eating disorders in student populations and 2) inform attendees how to identify and navigate the physical, emotional, and academic challenges faced by students struggling with eating disorders.
