In this session, attendees will learn how to use past information to help inform the future. We will dig through data from NBOA’s Business Intelligence for Independent Schools (BIIS) to learn what happened and consider its impact on the future. Creating a Strategic Financial Plan | Liz Maher, NBOA
It is no secret that long-term financial planning that includes realistic expectations is a step in the right direction to attaining financial sustainability. But where does an independent school start and how do they know which levers to adjust to reach their goals? In this session, attendees will learn about the basics of creating a long-term financial model, considerations for scenario planning, and discover tools to help monitor financial health.

Disability: The Realities and Promise of Inclusion | John Sharon
Fifteen percent of the world’s population has an intellectual or physical disability, but for many reasons, NAIS schools have historically not served these individuals. That’s beginning to change. Campuses are increasingly accessible, admissions offices more welcoming, and teachers more flexible. From students with learning differences to faculty with mobility issues, NAIS schools are becoming more inclusive of people with disabilities. We’ll share research about leading schools and what they have done to become more welcoming and supportive. We’ll look at ways to expand our school communities to include more mission-appropriate students and teachers with disabilities who represent the best of what our schools can be. And we’ll discuss how this issue of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice must be part of broader institutional efforts to recognize once-marginalized voices.
