Accreditation

The North Carolina Association of Independent Schools (NCAIS) is developing its own accreditation program as a strategic investment in the quality, credibility, and future of independent education across the state. Following the Board's approval in June 2026, NCAIS is designing a rigorous, peer-reviewed accreditation process that reflects the distinctive missions, governance, and educational practices of North Carolina's independent schools. As school choice programs continue to expand and public expectations for accountability evolve, this initiative positions NCAIS to lead by establishing a standards-based framework that demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement and educational excellence.

The accreditation program is designed to strengthen NCAIS's role as both a champion for independent schools and a trusted voice in state education policy. By creating an evidence-based model of accountability, NCAIS will provide member schools with an accreditation process that is grounded in national best practices while tailored to the unique context of independent education in North Carolina. The program will also help provide policymakers, families, and the public with greater confidence in the quality, governance, and stewardship of accredited schools while aligning NCAIS with peer independent school associations that already offer accreditation.

As the accreditation framework is developed, NCAIS remains focused on creating a sustainable, mission-aligned process that promotes continuous improvement, supports school excellence, and reinforces public trust. This initiative represents an important evolution in the association's mission to strengthen North Carolina's independent schools and ensures that NCAIS continues to provide meaningful leadership, advocacy, and value to its member schools for years to come.

NCAIS is committed to keeping member schools informed as the accreditation framework is developed throughout the fall. Regular updates will be shared through the NCAIS website, and important milestones, resources, and opportunities for engagement will be communicated directly to member schools to ensure they remain informed and involved as the program takes shape.
