Organization Overview

Keystone Montessori School is an AMI-aligned Montessori community founded in 2013 with the goal of expanding access to authentic Montessori education in the Charlotte area. Inspired by Dr. Maria Montessori’s scientific observations of children, the school is grounded in a deep respect for each child’s natural development and an understanding of their innate curiosity and drive to learn.

Established by AMI-trained educators Hawley Hoggard and Allyson Creel, along with the support of founding families, Keystone began with a single Primary classroom. Since then, the school has grown thoughtfully to include two Primary classrooms for children ages 3–6 and a Lower Elementary classroom for ages 6–9, and an Upper Elementary classroom for ages 9 - 12. This intentional growth reflects a commitment to maintaining program quality while meeting the needs of the community.

Keystone’s mission—to honor each child’s natural development through joyful, purposeful learning—guides all aspects of the school’s work. Within carefully prepared environments, children are given the freedom to engage in intellectually stimulating, creative, and meaningful activity, fostering independence, concentration, and a genuine love of learning. As a community, Keystone places the needs of children at the center of its decisions and strives to provide an educational experience that is engaging, respectful, and grounded in the principles of AMI Montessori education.
